VOLUNTEER
All positions require an interest in working in human trafficking, human rights, and nonprofits. Applicants are required to participate in human trafficking training, trauma-informed training, and submit to an in-person interview and a background check. Applicants may be rejected or terminated based on an unacceptable background check. Determinations will be made on an individual, case-by-case, basis.

Time Commitment: Part-time, minimum of 5 hours per week up to 25 hours per week depending on availability and need. This is an unpaid position in either Toledo or Columbus, Ohio or Nashville, Tennessee.
Position Description: A Paralegal or Law Clerk will provide support to AO staff attorneys. Volunteers will conduct legal research and writing; prepare affidavits and maintain document files and case correspondence; review and file pleadings, petitions and other documents relevant to court actions; draft documents and pleadings; general legal case management including prioritizing cases for scheduling; conduct client and witness interviews. Additionally, this position will be asked to participate in regular review of local, state, and federal law and policy related to human trafficking issues to ensure AO remains current with all policy changes in this field. Paralegals or law clerks will also be asked to participate in drafting recommendations and position papers regarding development of new policies and initiatives.
Minimum qualifications: Law students, attorneys, and paralegals are encouraged to apply. Law students with their Ohio or Tennessee Supreme Court Certification will be given preference among law student applicants.

Position Description: This position will be responsible for promotion and advertising of AO and services offered. The Marketing and Public Relations Specialist will need to keep current with AO publications, marketing material, etc. and will assist in developing agency material. Volunteers will provide support for maintaining AO social media and website.
Minimum qualifications: Preference will be given to individuals with a degree in (or pursuing a degree in) marketing and communications, public relations, or a related field. Experience working for a non-profit organization is a plus.

Position Description: AO provides many services to trafficked and exploited persons. The agency is also involved in various outreach events and fundraising events. Those interested in being involved but unable to commit significant amounts of time may be interested in volunteering for AO on an as-needed basis.
General Volunteers may be asked to assist with (but not limited to):
Staffing AO informational booth at conferences or events
Awareness raising campaigns
Assisting with general office duties
Answering agency phone callsMinimum qualifications: Experience working for or volunteering in a non-profit organization is desired. Must have a passion for working with trafficked and exploited persons.
